Indian Classical Music

Indian classical music has two major traditions — Hindustani (North Indian) and Carnatic (South Indian). Both are built on the foundations of raga (melody) and tala (rhythm). Students learn the structural elements of classical composition and the discipline of improvisation within tradition.
Curriculum
- BeginnerBeginner — swara (note) system, basic raga, basic tala.
- IntermediateIntermediate — one or two foundational ragas; bandish (composition) study.
- AdvancedAdvanced — raga elaboration, alap-jor-jhala, vilambit and drut bandish.
- MasteryMastery — original compositions, teaching, performance practice.
